Back to golden era at cinema

Walsall Museum is taking cinema fans back to a golden era with its ‘Your Corner’ exhibition that explores the story behind the 1957 film The Prince and the Showgirl.

Local man Ian Payne has put the display together with extensive material that he has collected relating to the life and career of Walsall actor Richard Wattis who featured both in the film and the play that it was based on.

The film starred Marilyn Monroe and Sir Laurence Olivier and was subject to problems from the start due to the fractious relationship between the pair. The making of the film has now been turned into a movie, ‘My Week With Marilyn’ which stars Michelle Williams as Monroe, Kenneth Brannagh as Olivier and Richard Clifford as Richard Wattis.
