Crime reduction in Wigan Borough

Crime across the Wigan Borough has reduced by six per cent thanks to the work of the Police, the Council and other local agencies over a 12 month period. This means that there have been 1,072 fewer victims of crime in the area.

Community rallies round con victim

The Wigan community has been thanked by a pensioner for helping her get back on her feet after she fell victim to a rogue workman. Theresa Byrne had her garden cleared and tidied by Good Samaritan David Blackburn, of DB Gardening Services in Billinge, after she was conned out of £80 for work that was never done.

£21,480… it’s finders keepers

A Lancashire couple, who did the honest thing and handed in £21,000 that they found on their doorstep to the Police, have been allowed to keep the cash. Ian Roberts, 61, and Pam Curtis, 58, found the £21,480 windfall in £20 notes in a plastic bag inside a wicker basket outside their home. The Lytham St Annes locals, who are both retired, decided to give the money to the police because they had no way of knowing who it belonged …
