Bristol mum wins award after losing six stone

A woman from Bristol has won an award after losing six stone in just 15 months.

Nicola Saunders has been named as the Rosemary Conley Diet & Fitness Magazine Regional Slimmer of the Year 2012 after shedding 6st 8lb. She used to be 16st 1lb and wore a dress size 20-22, and she is now 9st 7lb and a size 8-10.

Nicola was presented with her award at Quorn House, Quorn’s head office in Leicestershire.

Nicola lost the weight with the help of local diet and fitness clubs and has managed to maintain her weight by continuing to attend classes.

Nicola’s weight wake up call came when she needed to have an operation to remove pre-cancerous cells and doctors were reluctant to carry out surgery because of her weight. She then decided to change her ways and lose the excess weight that she had been carrying for years.

“I realised I needed to start looking after my body in order to reduce the risk of ill health in the future,” said Nicola. “I didn’t know what healthy food was and I didn’t do any exercise whatsoever.”

Nicola managed to get to her goal weight just 15 months after joining her fitness class, which she started with her Mum.

“Joining the classes has got me back into exercising again. I’m now so full of energy and cycle to work at least three days a week. I also cycle around 40 miles each weekend with my 17-year-old son and I can keep up with him.

“I now feel much happier, healthier and fitter and my confidence has increased.

“My son is proud of his mum and doesn’t mind walking alongside me now.”
