Students celebrated cultures from around the world during a special Diversity week.
The week of events took place at Hertford Regional College and included performances by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists Team Shaolin (UK) and dance trio A3.
Events took place at the Broxbourne and Ware campuses of the college and aimed to highlight and celebrate the different cultures in the college community.
Students also enjoyed entertainment by Brazilian Salsa band Viramundo and learnt some new skills in a Capoeira martial arts workshop.
UK Paralympian Richard Chiassaro led a wheelchair basketball session in the Sports Hall as a celebration of the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
Hair and beauty students at the Inspires Salons in Ware and Bishop’s Stortford also took part in a Diversity competition with an Olympic theme, while students at Ware performed as a Human Jukebox.
Other events included an energetic African Drum workshop, deaf and visual awareness classes and a Diversity Debate that focused on helping people in other countries.
The college canteen also got in on the action, serving a selection of international meals including vegetarian sweet and sour, doner kebabs, South African babotie, chicken salsa and Argentinean fired chicken in pitta bread.
Jo Barnas, student liaison officer at the college, said: “It was great to see so many students embrace Diversity Week and witness the rich variety of cultures and talents we have in the college.
“We have been overwhelmed by the positive response from students who were delighted with the richness and variety of events on offer.”
