Street cleaner Ted Ferrow has decided not to hang up his broom just yet, despite reaching retirement age. Ted, 65, has been awarded the ‘Order of the Golden Broom’ by bosses at the Whitefriars shopping centre in Canterbury for his years of service and to mark his official retirement.

A summer of fun is being planned in Herne Bay to celebrate the reopening of the pier. Canterbury City Council has been working with the Herne Bay Pier Trust to come up with a programme of events when the neighbouring town’s pier reopens in June.
