Festive Bikers go soft

Bikers showed their softer side when they gathered in fancy dress to take part in a charity Christmas toy run.

Nearly 200 bikes and scooters of all shapes and sizes turned up to a bike shop in Chester to take part in the annual event to deliver toys to a hospice in Wirral.

The charity event is organised every December by Bill Smith Motors, Boughton, to supply Christmas presents to children with life-limiting and life-threatening diseases at Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Bikers of all ages turned up to the event this year, some in Christmas fancy dress costumes such as Santa and elves. They each took a toy donation for the hospice.

The bikers then rode in convoy for about 40 minutes to the hospice, many with piles of presents attached to their bikes. The event also raised £1,500 for the hospice.

Kelvin Sirrell, an employee at Bill Smith Motors, said: “Our customers and staff here are always keen to support the charity run as they know how important it is to Claire House as they need every penny they can get, relying solely on donations.”

Abi Smith from Claire House said: “A big thank you to all the bikers and Bill Smith Motors, especially in the cold and rain.

“We have to raise £2.5m annually and without the continuous support from fundraisers, this wouldn’t be possible.”

Prizes were awarded on the day by Bill Smith Motors for the best-dressed motorbike and best-dressed scooter. The company has raised more than £16,000 for the hospice over the years.
