Pupils have given a massive thumbs-up to their new school at the end of their first term in the building.
The youngsters have spent their first term in the new Beattock Primary School after moving in at the beginning of the year.
The new £2.6 million building at Craigielands was built to replace their old village school, which was demolished last year. The school, which was built in the 1960s, had many problems, including the fact that it was leaking.
The modern new three-classroom building was designed by Dumfries and Galloway Council’s in-house architecture team to provide bright airy classrooms and multi-purpose hall for the children.
The 1.5-acre site also includes a large enclosed playground, grass football pitch, space for outdoor activities and off-street parking. It also has renewable energy systems including solar thermal panels, photovoltaic panels, a biomass boiler and rainwater harvesting.
Headteacher Mark Neil said staff and pupils enjoyed showing members of the public around their new building during an open evening at the end of January.
During the new building project, the pupils had to move into part of the old Moffat Academy. They enjoyed being involved in the project and watching the new school gradually take shape.
The comments from pupils have included: “I am so happy we are in this lovely new school!,” and “I am so happy to be back at Beattock School, it is amazing!”
The new school, which also includes a nursery, has won a Saltire Award for design.
