New lease of life for historic park

A time capsule has been buried in an East London park as part of celebrations of its £1 million refurbishment. The Altab Ali Park, in Whitechapel, was officially reopened in March after a huge regeneration project.

Oxbridge aims for Hackney pupils

Hackney youngsters were told to aim for Oxford and Cambridge when they were visited by students from the top universities. The Oxbridge representatives paid a visit to the borough to try to encourage young people from the region to apply for places at the universities.

New chapter for library

Dalston’s new library is proving a big success story, with thousands of visitors walking through its doors every week. The new state-of-the-art library was officially opened at the end of February with a visit from famous author Nick Hornby.

Jay-Z is the latest big name to be added to the Hackney Weekend bill. The singer has been confirmed to perform at the event, along with Jessie J, Professor Green, Will.i.am, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Ed Sheeran, Dappy, Lana Del Rey, Chase & Status, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Leona Lewis, Florence & The Machine and many more.
