Hackney Weekend adds another star to the list

Jay-Z is the latest big name to be added to the Hackney Weekend bill.

The singer has been confirmed to perform at the event, along with Jessie J, Professor Green, Will.i.am, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Deadmau5, Ed Sheeran, Dappy, Lana Del Rey, Chase & Status, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Leona Lewis, Florence & The Machine and many more.

The Radio 1 Hackney Weekend is taking place at Hackney Marshes, London, on Saturday 23rd June and Sunday 24th June.

Mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe said: “The Hackney Weekend is shaping up to be the outdoor music event of the year and with Jay-Z now confirmed, demand for tickets will be even greater.

“We have secured half of the tickets for Hackney residents and there’s still time to register to be part of the borough’s biggest ever event.”

The event is free to attend but music fans have to apply for one of the 100,000 tickets available.

There will be more than 100 UK and international acts appearing on six stages throughout the weekend.

The event, also known as the Big Weekend, is held in a different venue each year, and in the past this has included Sunderland, Manchester, Cardiff, Londonderry and Birmingham.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “However, nothing so far as been as huge as the festival due to happen in Hackney this summer.

“As 2012 is a very special Olympic year, it feels right to celebrate the occasion and the location of Hackney with a enormous party – the UK’s biggest free ticketed music event.”
