The people of Haverhill are being urged to help raise cash for a youngster’s cancer treatment.
Andrew Nicholson, 52, of Snowdon Court, is appealing to people in the town for their support after finding out his five-year-old niece needs life saving treatment in America.
Andrew got in touch with lost family members recently and found out his cousin’s daughter Niamh Curry was suffering from a rare form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma.
The family, who live in Northampton, have been told there is no treatment for the illness in the UK, but they have discovered corrective surgery could be performed in America. They need to raise a massive £450,000 for the treatment.
Andrew said: “After getting back in touch I found out that my cousin’s daughter, who has just turned five, has this rare form of cancer and they need to raise £450,000 for her to have treatment.
“I want to ask companies and sports people to help us raise money. If anyone can come up with ideas to raise money for this little girl then I would really appreciate it. I will be grateful to the people of Haverhill if anyone can help.”
Niamh’s family have already managed to raise more than £100,000 for the Niamh’s Next Step campaign.
Andrew is now planning an auction evening or raffle to raise money. He has secured ten hospitality-package tickets to see the Saracens rugby team play at Wembley and is hoping for donations of more prizes and help with a venue.
He is also hoping to do a sponsored walk or cycle ride and a marathon to help the campaign.
