Hospice event goes online

A hospice fundraising event has gone online in an aim to attract even more entrants than usual.

The Girls Night Out, which is the biggest event of the year for St Nicholas Hospice Care, has already attracted more than 100 entries thanks to its new website.

Women can now sign up online to take part in the women-only night-time walk through Bury St Edmunds.

Ladies from all over the region take part in the event every year to raise money for the hospice charity.

Last year 700 women took part and organisers are hoping they can reach 1,000 this year.

Jenny Baskett, hospice events and challenges fundraiser, said: “The majority of people who have signed up have done it through our website, which shows just how quick and easy it is.”

The theme for this year’s event, which will take place on September 15, is goddess. Many women are expected to dress in togas to take part in the 11.2-mile or six-mile walks. Women who signed up before May 31 were being offered a reduced registration fee.

Jenny added: “This is the first time we have offered an early bird sign up offer and it has been proving popular. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of it, because not only do they get a discount they also get more time to fundraise.

“Last year, in addition to being sponsored, lots of women raised money through cake and biscuit sales. The money everyone raises does not just have to come from sponsorship – it is great when people think outside the box.”
