Dye that makes your hair grow and shoes that can have wheels added were just some of the inventions being pitched by students during a Dragons’ Den style competition.
The fictional products were being pitched by young entrepreneurs from Hertford Regional College (HRC) during an event at its Ware campus.
The students, all studying on the Pre-Apprenticeship Academy course, were invited to pitch their ideas to Youth East Regional Project Manager Heather Freeman, Youth East Deputy Project Manager Ben Wyse and Apprenticeships Administrator at HRC Emma Gratwick.
Jodie Driver and Nicole Phillips impressed the dragons with their invention of Hi Hair, a product that dyes hair whilst mending split ends, helping it to grow and preventing hair loss.
Heather offered the pair a fictional £150,000 for a 30% stake in their company and they accepted.
Ellie-Lee McLaren and Natalie Palmer’s idea was for ‘Vanleys’ which were shoes with optional wheels. Ben offered them £50,000 for a 25% share of the company.
Mark Golby, tutor and learning mentor for the project, said: “I am so proud of our students’ courage in presenting to a panel of business experts.
“Only seven weeks ago, these young people were unemployed, de-motivated and lacking confidence but today proved just how far they have come.
“I would like to thank the dragons for their time and efforts at the event and for providing invaluable individual feedback for each student which will undoubtedly help as they look to progress into an apprenticeship, employment or further education in the future.”
