Day of sport for businesses

Businesses are being encouraged to take part in a day of sports as a way of getting fit and making new contacts at the same time.

The Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Corporate Games is due to take place on June 19 after the event was a huge success last year.

Workers are encouraged to take part in a day of fun mixing networking with sports such as football, netball, kwik cricket, badminton, athletics and golf.

The 2012 event is being supported by international service company Serco, and organisers say it will be bigger and better than ever.

Derrick Ashley, chairman of the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Board, said: “I am delighted that Serco have come on board to sponsor this year’s event.

“We had hoped the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Corporate Games would become a regular annual feature in the county’s businesses calendar and getting the backing of a global company is a positive step.”

Local businesses are invited to enter teams of seven to compete in the event.

Silver Olympic medallist Mark Richardson said: “This is a fabulous initiative by the Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners Partnership to increase participation and get the business people of Hertfordshire doing more exercise.

“Wellbeing in the workplace has obvious benefits and it is great to see people getting involved and competing in an event which is fun too.”

Mark won a bronze medal in Barcelona (1992) and silver in Atlanta (1996) both in the 4x400m relay.
