Aliens land for Halloween
Aliens threatened to take over Ness Islands as part of a Halloween spectacular which attracted more than 10,000 people. An army of extra terrestrial characters invaded the area as part of the launch event for the Inverness Winter Festivals programme. Local children were encouraged to dress up in their scary Halloween outfits to scare the ‘aliens’ away during an evening of fun and entertainment.

Businessman David Sutherland walked the New York marathon to help boost a massive £1 million appeal for the Raigmore Children’s Ward. Mr Sutherland, 62, chief executive of Tulloch Homes and chairman of the appeal, was part of a seven-strong team to take part in the latest fundraising event for the new ward. The Highland public is being congratulated after it was announced that residents have been recycling more than 40% of their waste. The Highland Council has achieved a recycling rate of more than 40 per cent for the first time. The amount of waste the public is discarding has declined and the standard of recycled materials has improved.

The annual Highland Council Fireworks Display in Inverness has been hailed a huge success after it attracted record crowds of around 15,000 people. The display took place in Bught Park and was described by the Fireworx Scotland Display team as a “Pyrotechnician’s Dream”. The Falcon Drummers, from Merkinch, started the evening of entertainment with some live music.
