‘Portly’ businessman walks Big Apple marathon

Businessman David Sutherland walked the New York marathon to help boost a massive £1 million appeal for the Raigmore Children’s Ward. Mr Sutherland, 62, chief executive of Tulloch Homes and chairman of the appeal, was part of a seven-strong team to take part in the latest fundraising event for the new ward. Recycling success

The Highland public is being congratulated after it was announced that residents have been recycling more than 40% of their waste. The Highland Council has achieved a recycling rate of more than 40 per cent for the first time. The amount of waste the public is discarding has declined and the standard of recycled materials has improved.

Huge celebrations will welcome Olympic torch

A huge evening of celebration is being planned in Inverness for the arrival of the Olympic torch. The torch is due to arrive in the Highlands as part of its 70-day journey around the UK next year. The Olympic Flame will reach the Highlands on Saturday, June 9, and travel through Glencoe, Ballachullish, Fort William and Spean Bridge before travelling up the A82 to Fort Augustus, Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit and then into Inverness.
