Boys praised for helping pensioner

A group of three boys have been praised for coming to the rescue of a pensioner who had slipped while out walking her dogs. The boys, who have not been named, called the alarm when they discovered Rose McDonald, who had slipped on an icy bank near Kinghorn Lifeboat Station. She had fallen around four metres down the grassy slope and broken her ankle.

New shop has high hopes

A new shop in Kirkcaldy is hoping to boost local charities, help the town centre, give students some shop training and help the unemployed all at the same time. The new Relove It! shop, in Whytescauseway, was launched in December and has a lot to live up to. The shop sells second-hand items to raise money for the Frontline Fife Homelessness Services and Scottish Christian Alliance Ltd.

New hospital opens its doors

Staff and patients got a taste of the future as they moved into a new state-of-the-art hospital ward. The new accident and emergency ward at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital opened in December as part of a £170 million development. Victoria Hospital co-ordinator Tina Chapman said staff were overwhelmed by the new modern and spacious surroundings as they moved in.

Warden saves pensioner from fire

Community warden Brian Dougal proved just how important his job is when he saved the life of a pensioner. Brian, a warden in the Fife region, was out on his regular patrols when he heard the sound of a fire alarm. He jumped into action and managed to track the source of the alarm to a pensioner’s bungalow.

Students scale mountain for charity

Students took their studies to new heights when they climbed a mountain to improve their skills and raise money for charity. The students, who are all studying Army Preparation at Adam Smith College, in Kirkcaldy, scaled one of the highest munros in Scotland as part of a course project. They made it to the summit of the Schielhallion Mountain in Perthshire, which is over 1080 metres above sea level, in an aim to fine-tune their survival and team skills and …
