Gymnasts turn somersaults over new home

Gymnasts from Milton Keynes’ MK Springers were overjoyed when councilors approved their bid to move to bigger and better premises.

The club applied to move to a new unit that is double the size of their current 16 Carters Lane, Kiln Farm address. Growing numbers of new members meant that the old premises were too small, and they needed more room for their gymnast enthusiasts to practice.

After some tough negotiations, the letting agents agreed to swap properties, but there was still the matter of the planning permission for the new premises. The building was classified as an industrial building, but the new renters purposes meant that it would have to have its use changed to leisure.

“The planning department told us they were going to refuse permission, which was why we had to ask for the help of councillors,” said Jean Heffer-Rahn, the manager of MK Springers.

Jean spoke at the council meeting, in a bid to encourage the councilors, and it worked, as the councilors agreed unanimously.

“This was greeted with a massive cheer from the assembled parents, gymnasts and friends of MK Springers,” said Jean.

“We are so grateful for the support of all our parents and in particular the advice and assistance given by Councillor John Hawthorn,” she said.

The MK Springers teaches gymnastics to children aged between 3-18 and they also run classes throughout the city and after school clubs.

They even run parent and toddler gym classes. They are very excited to move to their new building: “Now the hard work starts!” said Jean.
