Jockey Ryan Moore was at Newmarket’s St Louis Primary School telling pupils what it takes to be a top jockey just 48 hours after winning the 1000 Guineas at the Rowley Mile.
The visit was part of the children’s project learning about the Olympic Games and was organised with the school in partnership with Newmarket racecourses. It aimed to help the children understand the dedication and hard work needed to become professional sportsman or woman.
Former champion Ryan brought a whip and skull cap along for the children to look at and try on.
They learnt all about what it takes to be a top jockey and got to see a trophy that they might win.
Chairman of the Friends of St Louis, Kit Prosser, said: “We are enormously grateful to Ryan for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and spend time with the children and share his valuable experience.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to apply their learning and knowledge about sports and we hope that it will be a lasting memory for them in this very special sporting year.”
The school will be part of an inaugural Festival of Sport where thirty local sports clubs will be attending and showcasing their sport.
Some of the clubs that will be demonstrating to the public include an American football team, Kuk Sool Wan, Newmarket Rugby Club and Newmarket Gymnastics Club.
