Union Flags bought for the Royal Wedding were given a second outing in Nottingham when Prince Andrew visited the city to promote its business sector.
The Duke of York was visiting in his role as the UK’s Special Representative for Trade and Investment.
Pupils from the city centre’s Blue Bell Hill Primary School were among the first to welcome Prince Andrew with their flag waving.
He went on to visit local companies Abacus and Experian to see the work they do and talk to members of staff.
Prince Andrew also paid a visit to the University of Nottingham. This followed a trip last year to the University of Nottingham’s Malaysia Campus near the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.
Professor Hai-Sui Yu, Dean of Engineering and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Elect at the university, said: “We are delighted and honoured to welcome His Royal Highness to University Park. Nottingham has led the way in international education for more than a decade.”
Peter Hogarth, International Trade Director for UKTI in the East Midlands, added: “This visit highlights Nottingham’s strong links with China and the huge opportunities this market offers to local firms. The Chinese economy is the world’s second largest with a rapidly growing middle class well capable of buying goods and services from the UK.”
The Duke praised local businesses during his visit and said that Nottingham was leading the way with research and development in the UK.
He spent a day in the county. Other firms he met included Speedo International, Bombardier Transportation and Mercian Cycles.
