Thousands of pounds have been raised by hundreds of bikers who braved the rain to celebrate the start of the motorcycle season.
The Royston and District Motorcycle Show at Meldreth Manor School raised a total of £9,300. The money will be split between Meldreth Manor School and the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Over 2,000 bikers turned up to the event in June, some from as far away as Kent.
They were not disappointed as Honda, Kawasaki, BMW, Royal Enfield, Suzuki and Harley Davidson all had stands showing the latest models on offer.
Steve Coningsby, show co-ordinator, said: “The show was fantastic, the threat of a bit of rain kept the numbers down, but I couldn’t move in the traders’ paddock for all the bikers.
“It’s great to know that year on year we just keep seeing more and more bikers coming to the show.
“Seeing all these bikes is great, but it’s even better for the charities we support.
“The kids from the school love coming down in the evening, and we are told they talk about it for months before and after.”
The event is now in its 26th year, after starting as a small event at the Red Lion pub, in Kneesworth, where members of the Royston and District Motorcycle Club (RDMCC) would get together each year to show off their bikes.
The RDMCC is based in and around Royston and was reformed in 1985. Its members include bikers, teenagers who love bikes but don’t ride them and friends and families of bikers.
