A doctor’s surgery in Weston-Super-Mare is celebrating after being voted General Practice of the Year. The national competition was organised by healthcare magazine publisher Campden Publications and named Tudor Lodge Surgery the winner of the new award.
Val Denton, the practice’s manager, was named Practice Manager of the Year and received a £2,500 bursary which can be used to make the surgery even better.
The practice and Val gained recognition for their focus on “Keeping Care Closer to Home”. This initiative included work to reduce hospital outpatient follow-ups that were unnecessary or unproductive and more attention and follow-ups for vulnerable elderly people, their carers and cancer patients.
The Tudor Lodge Surgery shared their impressive award with a surgery based in Surrey. This was because the judges could not decide between the high standard of care that the two practices offer.
Mrs Denton, who judges said had made an incredible contribution to her surgery over the last year and a half, said: “These three awards are a tribute to the fantastic dedication and commitment of the entire team at Tudor Lodge.”
