Royal visit for Weavers’ Triangle

Prince Charles praised regeneration work at Burnley’s Weavers’ Triangle during a visit to the town.

The Prince of Wales said the area could be “really spectacular” and described plans for a multi-million pound regeneration as “a really valuable and far-sighted investment in the future of Burnley”.

During his trip he had a look around the Sandygate Square area of the Weavers’ Triangle, which has been renovated by young people from the Prince’s Trust.

He praised the work of his charities in helping local people and their partnership work with the council and other organisations, adding: “I hope we can continue to work together in Burnley and use it as a good example for others to follow across the country.”

Local schoolchildren were lucky enough to meet the Prince and show him their work using the latest computer aided design technology as part of a project based in the 19th century buildings.

Burnley Council leader Charlie Briggs said: “Two years ago Burnley Council stepped in to save Weavers’ Triangle from terminal decline. Buildings were in danger of collapse, walls were falling down and roofs caving in. Since then we’ve seen a remarkable transformation.

“This is just the start and now we’re on the verge of the next phase in the transformation. Millions of pounds are being poured into Burnley’s historic heart to take it into the 21st century. We’re on the verge of a new revolution with Weavers’ Triangle at the heart of it – just like it was 150 years ago.

“I’m very proud that we have this opportunity to give The Prince an insight into this transformation.”
