Head shave raises funds for Peru charity trek

Clo Bell said goodbye to her hair in order to raise money for her friend Laura Burgess’ charity trek in Peru.

Laura, who is from Wisbech, needed to raise £3,700 for the 26-mile Inca Trail trek. She is raising the money for MacMillan Cancer Support and doing the trek in memory of her mother.

Kind hearted Clo’s close shave raised more than £1,100 and now Laura will definitely be able to go on the trek.

Laura said: “Sunday was brilliant. We had lots of people come along and we still have sponsorship money to come.

“We had hundreds of cakes on sale and a massive raffle. Thank you to all the businesses who donated prizes and helped on the day.”

Laura’s mother died from Leukemia last year and Clo worked as one of her mother’s carers.

The event was held at Leverington Social Club, who provided the venue for free. Curtis Woods donated his services for a disco and Lisa from Clippers shaved Clo’s hair free of charge.

Laura will complete the Inca trail with fellow Fenland youth workers Vicki Wright and Alice Goose.

Vicki has raised £4,734 through a ‘Fantastic Fitness Afternoon’ and is now aiming to hit the £5,000 mark.

She said: “The afternoon couldn’t have gone ahead without the support of Hannah Dawson, the guys from Finesse Personal Training and all the very mad people who came along and put themselves through a gruelling four hours of exercise for Macmillan.”
