The East End tradition of a good old street party seems to be alive and well in Newham, with record numbers of people applying to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee. Newham Council has already received many applications for street party licences and says it is already expecting even more community celebrations than there were for the Royal Wedding weekend.

A time capsule has been buried in an East London park as part of celebrations of its £1 million refurbishment. The Altab Ali Park, in Whitechapel, was officially reopened in March after a huge regeneration project.

Dalston’s new library is proving a big success story, with thousands of visitors walking through its doors every week. The new state-of-the-art library was officially opened at the end of February with a visit from famous author Nick Hornby.
