Nurse plans to leap from plane

Nurse Helen Culham has decided to leap out of a plane to celebrate her birthday.

Helen, 39, is planning to skydive from 10,000ft in the air to mark her 40th birthday and raise cash for charity at the same time.

The nurse, from Grimsby, works at the town’s Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital and wants to raise at least £500 for the children’s charity When You Wish Upon A Star.

The charity, based in New Waltham, helps to fulfil the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. This could be anything from a trip to Disneyland to meeting a pop star or sporting hero.

Helen, who is a mum of two, will take part in the tandem skydive in mid-June from Hibaldstow Airport.

She said: “I’m going to turn 40 five days after the jump so I’m hoping the weather is okay for me to do it.

“Skydiving is something I’ve wanted to do for years. I know a few people who’ve done it before and they all say it was the most exhilarating experience ever and that they want to do it again, so I’m hoping that’s the case.

“There are so many worthy causes out there that it was difficult to choose which one to support.

“I decided to choose When You Wish Upon A Star it does some amazing things for poorly children.

“I’m hoping if I raise enough sponsorship it will spur me on to jump from the plane. Having an expert attached to my back will help me to jump too.”
