Thousands of free tickets for Olympic show

Thousands of free tickets are being handed out to residents for an Olympic celebration.

Residents in North East Lincolnshire have been invited to apply for the 8,000 tickets, which will be allocated through a ballot system.

The huge Olympic celebration is being held at the Meridian Park Showground in Cleethorpes on June 26 to mark the torch relay travelling through the region.

The event will be staged by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and the three Presenting Partners of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay – Coca-Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung – with support from North East Lincolnshire Council.

The two-hour show will include performances by up-and-coming live music acts, acrobatic performances and dance performances.

Local entertainers will also be given a chance to shine as there will be a community street dance performance to open the event and a showcase of music from the East Coast Elite Brass and Percussion Corps and the Gyko Community Taiko Group.

Members of the public will also have a chance to get their photograph taken with the London 2012 Torch during the event.

Cllr Michael Burnett, of North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “As demand is expected to be high for the evening celebration event, we felt the fairest way would be to allocate tickets using a ballot system, similar to how many tickets for the national Olympic sporting events have been organised.

“Meridian Park Showground, in Cleethorpes, will welcome 8,000 spectators. It will be a wonderful opportunity to be at the heart of the celebrations in North East Lincolnshire, to continue the celebrations following the torch’s relay through Immingham, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.”
