Riding their bikes became a walk in the park for a group of youngsters thanks to a special training weekend.
The bike-riding session was held to help youngsters ditch their stabilisers and get confident on two wheels. Older children were also taught bike riding skills and confidence during the two-hour course.
The event, which was funded by Harrow Council, was held by Cycle Experience and took place at Kenton Adventure Park, also known as Kenton Recreation Ground, in Carlton Avenue, Kenton.
Christopher Langley, chairman of the management committee of Kenton Adventure Park, said: “The applause given to those children and young adults, who just one hour into taking part in the ‘Top Gear’ cycle experience could control their bikes, was a first for the trainers from Cycle Experience.
“All 30 mums and dads watched in awe as their wobbly charges had their bikes checked over, saddles lowered and raised and a stern but helpful word given to riders on how to look after their bikes. They became, as if by magic, competent cyclists.
“Mums’ fear of an accident after the stabilisers were removed for the novice riders turned to disbelief when off came the peddles as well!
“But it was all part of the plan to give confidence to the three and four-year-olds also being taught how to ride their bikes.
“The older riders were trained just a little away from the novices using the all weather pitch next to the tennis and basketball courts in Kenton Recreation Ground.
“Kenton West Safer Neighbourhood Team officers added a bonus to the event by meeting all the riders, security marking their bikes and helping them to judge when it’s better to ride on the path or the road.”
