Harrow’s first Food and Dance Festival has been hailed a success after attracting hundreds of people into the town centre.
The festival, on March 17, offered a packed programme of events including cookery demonstrations and tasting opportunities.
The event, which was organised by Harrow Council, also included dance demonstrations from 19 local groups and a continental market.
Cllr Bill Stephenson, the leader of Harrow Council, was taught how to make mushroom risotto in front of crowds at the demonstration kitchen outside the St George’s shopping centre.
CBBC presenter London Hughes kept the audience entertained as she hosted the dance stage in Station Road. Dance acts on offer included belly-dancing, Bollywood, folk, salsa, swing, Irish dancing and street dance.
Cllr Keith Ferry, portfolio holder for planning and economic development at Harrow Council, said: “The turn out was fantastic, and the atmosphere was great. Everybody seemed to be in a great mood and they were willing to engage and get stuck in with the events on offer.
“Already we have had some great feedback from people who say they would like more of this sort of thing, and we hope it can become an annual event on the calendar.
“As well as great food and fresh produce, and top quality entertainment, the event was about showcasing what Harrow town centre has to offer.
“The council is working with local businesses to promote the area and lay on events to attract more people to visit and shop there, and we are already seeing the benefits.”
