New Year’s Resolutions have landed one man a role as the face of a national campaign.
Christopher Day, 55, of Bovingdon, has been chosen as the new face of Mencap after entering a competition.
Christopher, who has learning difficulties, will now head the charity’s national campaign New Year, New Me.
He was chosen after taking part in a competition, which asked entrants to send in their goals for the year ahead.
Christopher, who is a member of drama and performance art group The Pioneer Spirits, wrote to say he wanted to perform at the London Palladium, continue to be happy, positive and cheerful and hopefully find himself a job placement or training.
He said: “I received an email from Mencap in November and decided I would apply for the competition.
“I had to email Mencap telling them what I hoped to achieve in 2012.
“I said I’d like to go on stage at the London Palladium and also find a base for my drama group, the action enterprise drama group Pioneer Spirits, which currently meets in St Albans. I would like them to have a building to be used for other people with a learning disability.”
Christopher now features in an online Mencap video on the charity’s website and social networking sites.
Mencap spokesman Nzinga Cotton said: “It features Christopher talking about what he wants to achieve during the year.
“The idea is to show disabled people in a positive light as well as inspiring other people to make plans and New Year resolutions.”
