A Ware gym is one of the best in the region for people with disabilities thanks to a huge cash injection.
East Herts Council has invested £84,000 for specialist Techogym equipment at Fanshawe Pool and Gym, in Ware.
Much of the new equipment, which has already been installed, is specifically designed for wheelchair users and people with disabilities. The new kit means the leisure centre is among the best in the region for wheelchair users and people on exercise referral schemes from their GP.
Linda Haysey, East Herts Council’s executive member for health, housing and community support, said: “This investment is great for leisure centre users and makes excellent financial sense. It will encourage existing members to stay with us because they know they’re getting the best that’s out there. And it will help to attract new people to come along.
“Making a regular slot for exercise is good for everyone’s health and it’s a great way to start burning off those extra seasonal calories. So why not check out the membership deals and start your fitness programme this year.”
Residents are also being encouraged to get fit through the council’s Sport Maker scheme.
People taking part choose which sports to be involved with and who they want to help sport happen for. They are given a free kit and the chance to win Olympic tickets. Once they have completed 10 hours as a Sport Maker, there are chances to win tickets to attend this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.
