Hertford Carnival is making a comeback after 12 years.
The carnival has been resurrected after a very long break and will take place in June as part of the town’s Olympic and Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The carnival, which will follow the theme of A Festival of Nations, will include a traditional parade through the town centre and a day of fun and entertainment in the grounds of Hertford Castle.
Hertford Carnival committee chairman Alan Lynagh said: “A lot of work is now underway to enable the return of Hertford Carnival, but its success is dependent on people taking part.
“This is a great opportunity for all kinds of groups to work together to prepare for and take part in what should be a fun occasion, and with the international theme it’s a great chance to learn about one of the countries taking part in the Olympics.
“There are many charities and voluntary groups doing fantastic work in Hertford, and I would encourage them to apply to be the nominated beneficiary of the carnival. I hope that the community will then come and support them in June.”
Cllr Jane Sartin, of Hertford Town Council, said: “Long-term residents of Hertford will remember the Hertford Carnival fondly, and newer residents will no doubt have experienced one elsewhere.
“Wherever they take place, their success is down to a band of committed volunteers. We want to hear from everyone who feels they might be able to play a part in bringing the Hertford Carnival back to life. Individuals, community groups, schools and churches. I challenge everyone to think about the skills and experience they have, and come forward to get involved in this exciting project.”
