One Harpenden family have found success creating their own quiz card game, called sussed! Mark and Rose Evans, alongside sons Luke 18 and Joshua 16 from Sir John Lawes School came up with the idea to supplement Dad Mark’s income. The family had ambitions to travel the world, built a home music studio and set up a charitable foundation, so began work on the game.
Sussed! Started out as a board game in 2009 but evolved into a card game, with 33 re-inventions along the way, and nine names. The family put in over 4000 hours of work in creating the game, with over 2000 questions not making the final cut.
The object of the game is to score the most points by answering questions about the other players’ likes, dislikes, reactions, wishes and opinions. Players can enjoy comparing how they see themselves with how they are viewed by others, which Mark says can get embarrassing!
Mark works during the week managing a team of experts at Coutts Institute, working with people who advise family business owners and philanthropists.
He works on Sussed! at the weekend, as well as in the early hours of the morning. He compares the project to his day job, saying: “Unsurprisingly, many of the success factors that apply to family businesses apply equally to family projects, including being passionate about what you are doing”.
Sussed! Is available in 12+ and 18+ versions from Amazon.
