On The Lunesdale Art Trail

Growing in popularity every year, the Lunesdale Arts Trail is becoming a fixture in the arts diary for the Lancaster area. The trail, incorporating the Vale of Lune, showcases creations by various local artists, with the aim of promoting their work, and giving people the chance to see the artists at work, all whilst enjoying the beautiful area. The idea was first formed by a group joined by their shared interest in art, and The Studio Trail was then created in 1997 to guide visitors wishing to see local artistry in action. The trail can help give an insight into how different artists work, and meet them in their own studios. The programme includes artist showcases and workshops during the summer, in various locations including the Methodist Chapel in Bentham and various more remote locations such as barn and farm studios. These workshops feature known artists, leading different disciplines including landscape drawing, still life, pastel as well as the development of creative ideas.

The area’s dramatic scenery provides plenty of inspiration for established and aspiring artists alike. With the featured work on display ranging from painting to ceramics, drawings to weaving and dance video, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy. The trail takes place in June every year.
