Pub of the year – again

Lincoln pub The Strugglers Inn has won a pub of the year award for the second time.

The pub, in Westgate, has been given the title by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) for the second time in just three years.

The pub prides itself on serving a variety of different ales from all over the UK.

Landlady Anna, who has run the pub for three years, said: “To win this award again is absolutely tremendous, it is a wonderful accolade.

“Our success is down to the interest that our staff and myself give the customers when presenting them with beers from local breweries.

“We also get ales from further afield, for example we had a beer from the Orkney Islands recently.

“It is lovely just to be able to bring in different beers for people who can’t get further afield to try them.”

Anna regularly changes the beer on offer in the pub and always has at least seven real ales to choose from, with at least one from a local brewery. She said popular ales sometimes sold out at the pub within just five hours.

The landlady is now aiming for the prestigious title of Lincolnshire Pub of the Year.

She said: “I would like to think we might be able to win the Lincolnshire award but we might not manage to get any further. If we could do the double again then it would be fantastic.”

Lincoln Camra chairman Bob Foulger said: “If a publican looks after the cask beer in the cellar, then everything else in the pub is likely to receive the same care.”
