Afflecks Palace is known to a generation of Mancunians as a mecca for off-beat, unique and individual items. Afflecks was re-launched in 1982 by James and Elaine Walsh who wanted to give independent entrepreneurs a place to start their careers. Their ethos still remains the same to this day.

Baby girl born weighing 12lb 6oz delivered in Manchester

Britain’s third biggest baby girl born naturally, baby Bethany Jane Turner arrived in a birthing pool at North Manchester General Hospital weighing in at an astonishing 12lb 6oz. She is the heaviest girl to ever arrive at the hospital and her brave mum gave birth with only gas and air. Proud parents Naomi, 33, and Gavin Turner, 32 didn’t expect their daughter to be so big.
