Nuneaton and Bedworth is good for the heart – and that’s official.
The town has been commended as the most successful Heart Town in the UK in a report by the British Heart Foundation.
The report said: “Nuneaton and Bedworth as a Heart Town has raised over £5,500 in stock donations for British Heart Foundation shops and placed 22 clothing and/or book banks.
“Additionally, the Heart Town has delivered significant PR value with two TV news reports, along with radio and press – as well as the council’s own communications channels. On this basis, this Heart Town is probably the most successful in the UK in respect of both stock and PR.”
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council also teamed up with Nuneaton and Bedworth Leisure Trust to organise a Fun Run/Walk in April. Around 100 people took part and over £550 was raised for the British Heart Foundation
Donna Stokes, of the BHF, said: “The council and its officers are doing a fantastic job and have had huge successes, for example stock donations, the publicity surrounding the Heart Town and the commitment and dedication from council staff and councillors.
“In addition to this, we are indebted to the Leisure Trust and the running club for encouraging their network to make the Fun Run/Walk event the success that it was.”
Councillor Chris Watkins, Heart Town Champion for the borough council, said:
“We are really pleased to be working so closely with our partners to support the British Heart Foundation to raise the awareness of one of the biggest causes of premature death in our borough.
“We look forward to continuing to work together to find ways to educate and involve the communities of Nuneaton and Bedworth to improve their health and choose healthier lifestyles.”
