School is Outstanding

A primary school has been rated outstanding in every way by government inspectors.

Barnack Primary School has been graded outstanding in all areas by the Ofsted inspectors and praised for its strong leadership and management, its well-above average attainment in reading, writing and mathematics, rigorous monitoring of pupils’ progress and the exceptional behaviour of pupils.

Headteacher Stuart Wainwright said: “Credit to the whole team including staff, parents, children and governors who deserve the excellent comments made by the inspection team. Barnack CE Primary is a fantastic place to work and I am extremely proud to be a small part of an Ofsted recognised outstanding school.”

The report stated: “”Attainment is now above average in all years, and all groups of pupils make strong progress. Pupil attainment in reading is above average by the time pupils reach the age of six and well above average by the end of Year 6. Pupils enjoy their learning and take pride in the presentation of their work. Teachers know pupils exceptionally well and relationships between pupils and staff are strong.”

The inspectors also praised the school’s caring ethos and its “buddy” scheme, which involves older pupils looking after younger ones.

John Richards, Peterborough City Council’s executive director of children’s services, said: “Well done to everyone connected with Barnack Primary School on this truly outstanding report. As inspectors clearly state, it is thanks to the exceptional leadership of the headteacher, his staff and the governing body, who all have a passion for education and making sure children reach their highest potential. Also deserving of a pat on the back are the pupils who work incredibly hard, and their parents and carers.”
