Young people got dressed in their best for glittering film award ceremonies.
The Children and Young People’s Film Awards celebrated the talent of pupils from schools and colleges in Peterborough.
The ceremonies, organised by Peterborough County Council, took place at the city’s KingsGate Community Church.
More than 140 films were entered in this year’s competitions. Michael Cross, artistic director at the Key Theatre, compered the awards. There were also recorded addresses from actor Rory McGrath, children’s TV presenters Dick and Dom, Blue Peter presenters Helen Skelton and Andy Akinwolere and actor Lewis Sanderson.
The overall winner in the Young People’s Film Awards was St John Fisher Catholic High School with the film Robot Planet From Outer Space. The school also won the Year 7 Drama award and the Key stages 3, 4 and 5 Best Animation Film award.
The overall winner in the Children’s Film Awards was West Town Primary School with the film East of the Sun, West of the Moon. The school also won the Stories From Around the World award.
Awards were given in many other categories.
The competition is organised as part of the city council’s READ.WRITE.inspire literacy campaign to improve the reading and writing skills of everyone in Peterborough.
Councillor John Holdich, cabinet member for education, skills and university, said: “These awards have been running since 2005 and the films never cease to amaze me. The standard of the films at both award ceremonies this year was just exceptional and goes to show what talented children and young people we have in this city.
“The film awards are just one of the really fun and innovative ways we can make reading and writing enjoyable and make the curriculum interesting.”
