Volunteers and sporting champions have been awarded in two glittering ceremonies in the borough.
The Procter & Gamble Surrey Youth Games (PGSYG) and Borough Sports Awards took place in the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, to celebrate the achievements of sports people and clubs in the area.
Awards were given out for success at both regional and national level. They included Bob McGillivray, for Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by the borough Council; Will Robinson, winner of Young Sports Person of the Year, sponsored by Kimberly-Clark; and Ben Lankshear, for Disabled Sport Award, sponsored by Simply Sports.
Cllr Adam De Save, executive member for healthy communities, said: “These awards highlighted the tremendous achievements of our local sporting champions. They truly deserved to be awarded for their tremendous success. Congratulations to all the winners.”
In the Mayor’s Volunteer Awards, 22 awards were handed out to those who have made the borough a better place through their dedication to helping others.
Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Cllr Brian Stead, said: “It was a real honour to recognise the work of these dedicated volunteers. They have undertaken commendable work that is very much appreciated by many people across a wide spectrum.
“I would like to extend my thanks to not only those recognised in these awards but to all volunteers who make a difference throughout the borough. I also would like to thank those who nominated the award winners for taking the time to make their nomination.”
The top award for Outstanding Achievement was presented to Andrew Cole, who was nominated for his work with the Victim Support and Witness Service over a period of nearly 29 years.
