Centre revamp provides new youth gym

Young people now have their own dedicated gym thanks to the £4.1 million revamp of a Redhill leisure centre.

The Donyngs Leisure Centre, was officially reopened at the end of October following its major refurbishment.

One of the highlights of the new centre is the Youth Gym, which has been specifically designed for 11-15-year-olds. The facility includes high tech activities such as interactive dance mats and an audio visual system, as well as traditional exercise equipment tailored for young people.

Young people will be able to take part in supervised exercise sessions in the gym, including dance, martial arts, games and competitions. The aim is to promote self-confidence, muscle development, healthy hearts, breathing and balance among young people.

The leisure centre also has new facilities for children under seven, with a soft play zone.

There is also an enlarged fitness and dance studio, new entrance and reception area, new wet and dry changing facilities, a modernised swimming pool and three new treatment rooms offering physio, health MOTs and beauty treatments.

Councillor Adam De Save, executive member for healthy communities, said: “The council is committed to helping residents live healthy and active lives.

“As well as significantly improving and modernising the centre for existing customers, we also want Donyngs to attract new users from all sections of the community including children, older people and families.

“The centre is also now more accessible for customers with disabilities and has a range of equipment suitable for visually impaired and disabled users.

“Feedback from customers had been extremely positive. I hope that these fantastic facilities will become even more popular with local people.”
