A new war memorial in Slough town centre will be paid for with public donations in time for Remembrance Sunday 2014.
A fundraising campaign has been launched to pay for the new war memorial. Slough Council has decided, after there has been a lot of criticism from the Slough Civic Society and the Royal British Legion (RBL) activists about the poor state of the borough’s four memorials, to launch a fund raising campaign to build a new structure in the town centre.
The new war memorial for Slough will be situated in ‘non-denominational’ ground – not located in a church.
John Rice, Council Consultant, said the money would be generated through a campaign involving the Arm, the Royal British Legion and the Civic Society.
