Young people in Lambeth have been given a new magazine in an aim to help them stay safe.
The one-off publication, entitled Teentlk, was given to every year nine, ten and eleven pupil in the borough in November, to coincide with Universal Children’s Day.
The magazine covered subjects such as online safety, safe sex, teenage pregnancy, street safety, post-16 education and employment, drink and drugs, non-gang membership and how to get involved in the local community.
It was organised by Lambeth Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB), which is a partnership of organisations including Lambeth Council, the NHS and the police.
David Sanders, the chairman of Lambeth Safeguarding Children Board, said: “The LSCB is committed to making life for young people in this borough better, happier and safer. But we know that young people are under more pressure than ever before, and life isn’t always easy juggling the hopes, expectations and pressures from school, parents and friends.
“The purpose of launching the magazine is to provide young people with topical and useful information about some of those issues. The articles in this magazine have been written by experts from across the partnership and it has been professionally designed to appeal to this age group.”
David Oyedele, Lambeth Youth Mayor, said: “I love living in Lambeth. There’s so much going on in this borough and loads of opportunities for young people. Life isn’t always easy though, and sometimes we all need a little bit of extra help. That’s why I’m really happy to endorse this new magazine.”
