Not just pretty faces

The new Miss Swindon and Miss Wiltshire winners are joining forces to try to raise £100,000 for charity during their year in office.

Ela Good, 23, of Wootton Bassett, who is the new Miss Swindon, and Ruth May-Johnson, of Stanford-in-the-Vale, who is Miss Wiltshire, have vowed to do plenty of good work over the next 12 months.

Ela, who takes over her crown from Hannah Golding, has also been named Miss Charity Wiltshire after raising hundreds of pounds in the run-up to the Miss Swindon final.

She said: “When my name was called I just couldn’t believe it. I was really hoping to win.

“I have had such a great four weeks in the run up to the competition raising funds for the Miss World charity, Beauty With A Purpose.

“It has been really busy and so much fun meeting new people. I didn’t want it to end.

“Ruth and I really want to get ourselves out there and do a lot of appearances.

“We want to raise awareness. We are keen to raise £100,000 this year. We want to exceed everybody’s expectations and anything anyone else has done before. That is our target.”

Ruth, who takes over her crown from Jo Logan, said: “Being crowned Miss Wiltshire was unbelievable. I was so shocked as all of the girls were so beautiful and really friendly too, so it was such a surprise to be chosen as the winner.

“Over the past couple of years the winners of Miss Swindon and Miss Wiltshire have done so much to raise the profile of the competition and have raised an incredible amount for charity.

“I hope to follow in their footsteps and continue their work in the local community.”

The pair will now also compete in the Miss World competition.
