The Thinktank science museum does its best to prove that science is definitely fun. It has been set out on four floors – each investigating a different theme and each offering plenty of hands-on opportunities.
On the level entitled Discover the Past, four galleries have been set up to look at vehicles in history, engines and industry, historic machines and city stories from the past. A floor entitled Discover the Present does just what the title suggests, with exhibits about the human body, wildlife, medicine and science and technology. On the Find the Future level visitors can explore science, technology and medicine and look at the possibilities for space travel in the future. On the Collections floor of the museum there are natural science exhibits such as fossils and skeletons, and science and technology displays such as the Spitfire aircraft.
Thinktank also has the UK’s first purpose-built digital planetarium, which opened in 2005. In the Digital Dome and Immersive Theatre, visitors sit and experience the displays all around them. The theatre shows include stars and planets, a trip through the human body and a trip under the ocean.
The IMAX cinema at Thinktank is another assault on the senses with a screen the height of a five-storey building and the width of four buses. The cinema uses the latest technology to show 2D and 3D films in great quality.
Thinktank is not just for the kids and is often used as a venue for corporate events with a difference.
