Football fans are planning a heritage board to remember the former home of their beloved team.
As Brighton and Hove Albion moved into the new American Express Community Stadium home, the Seagulls’ supporters did not want to turn their backs on the Goldstone Ground in Old Shoreham Road, Hove.
The club was based at the site for nearly 100 years and fans want to mark this with a permanent heritage board.
Tim Carder, chairman of the Albion Collectors’ and Historians’ Society, which is overseeing the project, said: “When the Goldstone Ground was taken from us 14 years ago there was no ceremony – just the sound of supporters dismantling the ground for souvenirs and protesting against those that sold it. Now, as we move on to the magnificent Amex, it’s finally time to come to terms with the loss of the old ground and remember it in a formal and appropriate manner.
“A generation of fans that never knew the Goldstone Ground has grown up. A heritage board will allow us to tell our younger supporters and those not yet born something of the story of that well-loved venue.”
One side of the board will display a history of the Goldstone Ground and the other will give information about Goldstone Bottom and Hove Park.
The Albion Supporters’ Club is planning to raise the money for the project, although fans are being invited to make donations if they want to.
Any excess income will be donated to Albion’s charity arm, Albion in the Community.
