Trader consultation kicks off Chester regeneration

Traders and business owners in Chester will be asked for their opinions and feedback as part of a huge consultation for a major regeneration of Chester.

A five month consultation will take place from August which will involve shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars, business services, leisure venues, tourist attractions and hotels in Chester.

Council bosses are hoping that the information gathered will help them in their ambitious scheme to transform Chester into a world-destination.

Business owners and traders will answer questions about partnership engagement in Chester, their current trading conditions, city centre events and festivals and future regeneration plans.

The participants will also be asked for their ideas for the regeneration plans including what they believe would attract more people through their doors. The research is being conducted by independent organisation, Groundwork Cheshire, on behalf of Chester Renaissance and City Centre Management.

Member of the Chester Renaissance Board and city centre councillor Samantha Dixon said: “Groundwork will be speaking to all traders in order to build up an accurate and up-to-date picture of the general health of city centre trading.

“A key part of this exercise will be identifying the future needs of traders and what support could help them to prosper and grow.

“This information will be vital to informing future One City Plan initiatives to support, improve and promote city centre trading.”

Independent private sector chairman of City Centre Management Paul Daniels said: “The board of City Centre Management are delighted to support and lead this wide-ranging consultation with city centre businesses.

“It will deliver business critical information to assist in planning for the future sustainability of this wonderful city.

“The Board of City Centre Management would wish to encourage all city centre businesses to take part in this consultation.”

The findings will be presented at the end of the year. For more information go to www.chesterrenaissance.co.uk.
