Toddlers are enjoying science in Dundee thanks to new Toddler Sense sessions at the city’s science centre.
The Saturday morning sessions are being held at the Sensation Science Centre in order to introduce science to toddlers and children up to the age of three.
Children are introduced to the subject through music and equipment. Activities include climbing a snow mountain, going on safari, digging for fossils, swimming with dolphins and hunting for dinosaurs. Staff at the centre say the sessions are already proving very popular.
The sessions run at two times during the day and are split into different age groups.
The introduction of the Toddler Sense sessions follows the new Baby Sensory science sessions, which started at the centre earlier in the year and have been very popular.
A spokesman for the centre said: “Babies learn more in the first year of life than at any other time. Never again will there be such an extraordinary pace of development. They are totally attentive and absolutely fascinated by everything that they can see, hear, touch, taste and smell. Baby Sensory doesn’t waste a moment of this valuable time.”
The science sessions are both carefully planned and based on research into how babies and children learn.
Parents also leave the sessions with lots of ideas for things they can do at home, such as baby signing.
The Sensation Centre also runs Early Explorer sessions for children aged three to five. These include hands-on workshops, storytimes and science and art activities.
