A knitted replica of the Royal Wedding has caused lots of interest in Ely and has brought its owners a prize for best dressed show window.
A detailed knitted version of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was joined by other members of the famous bridal party in the shop window of Yarn on the Square. The work even featured a slice of wedding cake and three corgis. The wedding display was the brainchild of Ginette Heard and Christine Brown, who run the knitting shop located on Ely’s Market Square. They arranged for it to be knitted, with the help of around 10 ladies.
Christine said: “The wedding party has created a lot of interest. People have really enjoyed looking at it.”
Apparently one of the corgis already has a home, but the wedding party may be raffled for charity. Ginette said: We have had a lot of fun making the figures and knitting the bunting. We love making things like this. It is so eye catching and lots of people have come along to see them.”
The Ely knitted version of the Royal Wedding party features the happy couple, together with the Queen and Prince Philip; Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall; Prince Harry, the bride’s parents, the Archbishop of Canterbury as well as some footmen. Alongside the knitted wedding party in the window was a stunning wedding shawl, knitted by Christine. She said: “It took six weeks to knit – I started it as soon as the couple announced their engagement.”
