Young writing student Zoe Adams has had her first taste of success after seeing her work published in a new book.
Zoe, 19, a student at the Grimsby Institute, has received the first copy of Ten Silver Bullets, an anthology of horror stories containing her own work Pawprints on a Heart.
She said: “”I’m still gobsmacked that the story has been chosen for the anthology. When I found out it was actually being published I screamed a lot.
“Pawprints on a Heart is a take on the first story I ever wrote as a prose assignment, it’s transcended itself into a short urban fantasy story, which is a genre I absolutely love to read.
“It’s about a female werewolf called Sophie, who is trying to leave that lifestyle behind her. Inevitably it all goes wrong when she runs into a group of blood sucking vampires, a werewolf’s natural enemy, and Sophie ends up transforming. Her best friend also joins in to help her to save the day, and it’s got a lovely ending.
“I read a lot of paranormal fiction, and I like the idea of a woman being able to shapeshift, as you don’t often get that in a werewolf, women normally transform into something else. I consider myself a strong character, having overcome obstacles in the past, and I see a lot of myself in Sophie.”
Zoe, who is a student on the BA Professional Writing programme, was persuaded to send her work to publishers Crowded Quarantine by her tutor Eamonn Griffin.
