Council is top tweeter

Tweeting, posting on Facebook and a well-maintained website has put Wyre Forest District Council on the top of a social media list.

The authority has been ranked first in the social media index for councils, due to the way it communicates with residents.

The index, provided by CouncilMonitor, said: “Wyre Forest District Council have small but well managed Facebook and Twitter accounts. Their website is unusual compared to our other top performers as it does not promote their social media heavily. However it is a very informative, organised site and shows that their focus on informing customers on the web is a priority.”

A spokeswoman for the council said: “We are delighted to come top of the index, but we know we’ve got a lot of work to do to increase our social media presence.  It is growing and it is good to know that what we are doing is being well received.

“The council is working hard to make our website and social media content as informative, up to date and accessible as possible.  Going online is an excellent way to get information about our services, and the beauty is that it can be done at any time of the day.”

CouncilMonitor, ranks councils by trawling the internet 24 hours a day, seven days a week, searching through news, blogs, forums and social media sites.

Among the Wyre Valley District Council online services are facilities for applying for things like benefits and planning permission or reporting things, such as a missed bin or fly tipping.
